PERKINSTON - Eight hits were all that Northwest could come up with in Saturday's doubleheader loss at Mississippi Gulf Coast, as the Rangers fell by a pair of 12-1 and 4-1 finals.
Northwest scored its only run in both games in the seventh inning, as the Bulldogs built up a strong lead early in the opener. The Rangers dropped to 26-15 on the season and 9-11 in the MACCC following the losses, while Mississippi Gulf Coast improved to 30-14 overall and 12-6 in conference play.
Next up for Northwest is a road doubleheader at East Mississippi, slated for Tuesday, April 15 at 2/5 P.M. The Lions (19-19, 6-12 MACCC) are coming off being swept at the hands of Meridian over the weekend.

Game 1 - Mississippi Gulf Coast 12, Northwest 1 (7 inn.)
A 5-0 deficit in the second inning quickly got out of hand for Northwest, as the Rangers surrendered five more in the fifth and one apiece in the third and sixth innings.
Mississippi Gulf Coast got all 12 of its runs on six base hits, while Northwest finished with five in the loss.
Lake Reed went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and
Hallas Lawson ended the game with a double as well.
Eli Deberry (4-2) was handed the loss for the Rangers, allowing five earned runs and five walks against two strikeouts in two complete innings.
Will Howell,
Drew Lamb and
Tatum Turner also combined for four innings of relief, with Turner garnering four strikeouts against a walk and an earned run in the final 1.2 frames.
Game 2 - Mississippi Gulf Coast 4, Northwest 1
Northwest surrendered two runs in the third, another in the fourth and one in the sixth, as Mississippi Gulf Coast picked up the Game 2 win and the sweep.
Like the opener, the Rangers picked up their only run of the game in the seventh inning, but there would be no comeback in store.
MGCCC held Northwest to just three hits in the afternoon finale, with two of those coming from
Tyler Sullivan and a double from
Levi Lang.
Thomas Mitchell (3-2) went the distance on the mound, finishing with six strikeouts against four walks.
