MERIDIAN - With last weekend's severe weather wreaking havoc across the Magnolia State, the East Mississippi Rodeo was cut back a little, as Northwest placed fifth in the men's standings and eighth in women's competition.
Will Collier and
Brayden Mahon accounted for two of the best finishes on the weekend, with the steer wrestling duo placing third and fourth, respectively. Collier recorded a time of 4.7 in the short-go and Mahon finished with a 5.2 result.
Additionally,
Wyatt Newman also finished eighth in steer wrestling with a 6.6 time.
In saddle bronc riding,
Christian Cagle tied for fourth with Judd Pope of Missouri Valley College, as both competitors finished with a score of 69.0.
Colbran Ingram finished with a fifth-place finish in tie-down roping, recording a 12.4 result.
Delaney Naifeh's seventh-place result in barrel racing was the most notable highlight for the Lady Rangers, as she recorded a 14.97 time.
Following the weekend, the Northwest men are fourth in the NIRA Ozark Region standings with 2,350.50 points. Missouri Valley College (4,265.50), West Alabama (3,236.00) and Southern Arkansas University (2,891.00) rank first through third, respectively.
Meanwhile, the Lady Rangers are currently sixth in the Ozark Region with 752 points.Â
Northwest will resume competition this weekend in the PRCC Rodeo in Poplarville. The event runs from Thursday, March 20 through Saturday, March 22.
