VICKSBURG - After dropping its first loss of the season at Calhoun on Tuesday, Northwest bounced back in a huge way at the plate, combining for 24 runs on 20 hits in a pair of run-rule victories against Coastal Alabama-North and SAU Tech on Friday.

In the 16-3 win against Coastal Alabama-North, freshman pitcher Alyssa Boswood picked up her first collegiate win, while Carleigh Calarco, Addison Owen and Sommer Tyes finished with two hits apiece. In the 8-0 shutout of SAU Tech, sophomore Morgen Brewton moved to 5-0 in the circle and Thenya Kennedy finished 3-for-3 at the plate.

With the wins, the Rangers moved to 9-1 on the season. Northwest will play two more games in the Hinds JUCO Classic on Saturday, taking on 12th-ranked LSU-Eunice and No. 21 Parkland College.

Game 1 - Northwest 16, Coastal Alabama-North 3 (5 inn.)

Northwest scored six runs in the top of the first and seven more in the fifth inning, as the Rangers picked up a five inning run-rule victory against Coastal Alabama-North.

Ellie Fryar's one-out double set in motion the scoring surge in the first inning, as an error by the shortstop in Carly Dunigan's at-bat allowed Fryar to score from first. Tyes then delivered an RBI base hit and Owen singled on a bunt, stretching the lead to 3-0.

With two outs in the top of the first, Emma Jennings was hit by a pitch and Calarco followed with an RBI base hit to center field, scoring both Jennings and Owen. An error by the shortstop in Jenn Smith's at-bat helped further push the Rangers' lead, 6-0.

Though the Lady Coyotes got a run back with an RBI-double in the bottom of the first, Northwest held Coastal Alabama-North off the board in the second inning. In the bottom of the third, a bases loaded walk cut the deficit to 6-2.

In the top of the fourth, Dunigan drew a walk and then stole second base, before scoring on Tyes' single to center field. Owen then scored Tyes on a groundout to the shortstop, pushing the Rangers' advantage to 8-2.

Freshman Kylie Frost added a triple in the fourth, later scoring on a groundout from Jennings. Coastal Alabama-North responded with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fourth, moving the score to 9-3.

Northwest finally broke things open for good in the top of the fifth, as Dunigan's two-run base hit to left field scored Kennedy and Marleigh Mancini. Madison Weeks then doubled to left field, scoring Dunigan and pushing the Rangers' lead to 12-3.

An RBI-grounder from Cadence Rolison scored Weeks from third and Jennings' RBI base hit allowed Owen to score. Calarco then capped off the scoring, blasting a two-run homer to left field. Aside from a two-out single, the Lady Coyotes went down quietly in the bottom of the fifth, as Northwest held on to the run-rule.

Northwest blasted out 13 base hits, which included doubles from Fryar and Weeks, along with a triple from Frost. Calarco also finished 2-for-4 with four RBIs.

Coastal Alabama-North committed five errors in the loss, but finished with seven base hits. Jade Allen went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI to lead the Lady Coyotes.

Boswood pitched three full innings, dishing a strikeout, a walk and an earned run, garnering her first collegiate win. Catelyn Brown also pitched two innings in relief, allowing just two hits and an earned run.

Reanna Johnson was handed the loss for Coastal Alabama-North, allowing six runs, a walk and a strikeout in just one inning of work. Madison Favre also pitched 3.1 innings of relief, surrendering eight runs, while Jordan Avera pitched 0.2 frames with two earned runs allowed.

Northwest 8, SAU Tech 0 (5 inn.)

A five-run first inning helped lift the way for Northwest in an 8-0 run-rule victory against SAU Tech.

Kennedy led off the bottom of the first with a single to center field, and a hit-by-pitch and a walk loaded the bases. With two outs, Lulu Franks's two-run RBI base hit scored Kennedy and Dunigan, while Tyes stole home to add an additional run. After Jennings' RBI-double allowed Franks to score, Kennedy's RBI base hit closed out the inning.

SAU Tech went down in order in the top of the second, and Owen's two-out double to left field extended the Rangers' lead to 6-0.

Northwest didn't score again until the bottom of the fourth, when Owen's sacrifice fly scored Dunigan. The Rangers would then get the walk-off run with Kennedy's single to center field in the fifth inning.

Brewton went the distance in the circle, earning her third complete game of the season. The Mobile, Ala. native struck out four batters against a walk.

At the plate, Kennedy went 3-for-3 with two RBIs, while Franks, Jennings, Owen and Marleigh Mancini each finished with a base hit.
