Brayden Mahon takes home second rodeo title of the season in steer wrestling

Reagan Chance makes it back in breakaway for first time in 2025

MONTICELLO, AR – Things didn't go the way the Northwest Mississippi Community College rodeo team was hoping for this weekend at the Boll Weevil Stampede hosted by the University of Arkansas – Monticello, only bringing back three athletes to the short go and only seeing one place in the average.

The one who did place got his money's worth with Brayden Mahon coming away with his second title of the season in steer wrestling, pairing a 5.3 in the first go with a 4.9 in the second go to finish with a 10.2 in the average to take home the buckle, finishing seven-tenths of a second faster than Carson Ball of Missouri Valley College for the top spot.

The weekend netted Mahon 170 total points in the regional standings and moved him from sixth place up to second place with 310 total points after just four rodeos. It pairs with a title he picked up during the second rodeo of the season at the University of West Alabama and puts the sophomore from New York in a good place going into the final rodeo of the fall.

One other Ranger did make it back in steers with Trey Lee Weekley also getting back after an 8.4 put him in eighth in the first go but his 10.2 in the short go left him in seventh in the average and on the outside looking in.

On the women's side, Reagan Chance picked up some points in a new discipline, not making it back in barrels but coming back in breakaway for the first time this year after looping her calf with a time of 3.0 in the long go, tying her for sixth place in the go. Unfortunately, the freshman couldn't put down a time on her short go run and failed to add any more points.

The Ranger women finished in seventh place for the rodeo with their 3.33 team points from Chance and for the first time this year the men's team didn't register any points in the team standings.

There will be a long break for the Rangers before they get back in action as their final rodeo of the fall won't be until November 20th when they travel to Murray, Kentucky for the Racer Roundup College Rodeo hosted by Murray State University.
