Northwest Mourns Passing of Brooke Walker

Former Lady Ranger was in fourth season as Holmes' women's basketball assistant coach

GOODMAN - Northwest Mississippi Community College joins Holmes Community College in mourning the tragic loss of Lady Bulldogs' assistant basketball coach Brooke Walker, who passed away in an automobile accident late Sunday afternoon.

Walker, a native of Terry, was in her fourth season as a member of the Holmes women's basketball coaching staff. The former Copiah Academy standout competed for two seasons at Northwest, playing under longtime head coach Don Edwards from 2016-18.

Walker departed Northwest with an associate of arts degree and obtained a bachelor's degree in general studies from the University of Mississippi, with minors in Sociology, English and Education.

In addition to her coaching duties at Holmes, Walker also coached AAU basketball, serving as the head coach for the Team Mississippi 15U team and the assistant coach of Team Mississippi 18U and the Mississippi Jazz, serving grades sixth through 12th. Her teams won the Nike National Championship twice and obtained 15 local and regional championships as well.

Two visitations will be held for Walker, one for friends and extended family on Wednesday, Jan. 15 from 5-8 P.M. at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence. A second visitation will be held on Thursday, Jan. 16 from 10 A.M. to 12 P.M. at Lakeshore Church in Byram. The funeral service will also be held at Lakeshore Church at 12 P.M., followed by burial at Cleary Baptist Church Cemetery.

Northwest will hold a moment of silence prior to tipoff of Monday evening's contest against Copiah-Lincoln. The game is scheduled for a 5:30 P.M. start time.
