PERKINSTON - Northwest was held to just one shot on-goal and two total shots in Friday evening's 7-0 loss at fifth-ranked Mississippi Gulf Coast.
Four of the Bulldogs' seven scores came in the first half, including a three-goal hat trick from Victor Moerck. For the match, Mississippi Gulf Coast finished with 12 shots on-goal.
Just over five minutes into the match, Moerck and MGCCC took a 1-0 lead off an assist from Connor Goodman. After Vincenzo Jeanfreau pushed the Bulldogs' lead to 2-0 in the 12th minute, Moerck connected on his second goal in the 20th minute, further widening the gap to 3-0.
An unassisted strike from Moerck just before halftime buried the Rangers in a 4-0 deficit. The Bulldogs made things worse with three second half goals, confirming the shutout against Northwest.
Jacob Little finished with six saves in a full 90 minutes of action, while David Ruiz Ospina wasn't tested in 78 minutes of starting time for MGCCC. Reserve keeper Andrew Sawyer finished with a save in the final 12 minutes.
For Northwest, sophomore
Soren Voges-Haupt was slapped with a caution during the match, his fifth yellow card of the season.
With the loss, the Rangers dropped to 1-7-2 on the season and 0-4 in MACCC competition. Mississippi Gulf Coast improved to 7-1-2 overall and 3-0-1 in conference play.
Northwest will aim to snap the losing skid on Tuesday, October 1 against National Park College. Start time is scheduled for 6 P.M.
