CLINTON - Just days after teammate
Zaria Glover signed with Jackson State University, Northwest forward
Marian Jenkins has also signed her letter of intent to Mississippi College.
Jenkins becomes the fifth member of the 2023-24 Northwest women's basketball squad to sign with a four-year program, which is the most in a single season for the Lady Rangers since the 1996-97 season. (Six players from that team signed with four-year programs, including three to Ole Miss and one to Mississippi State.)
"Marian was an integral part of our program's success over the past two seasons," Northwest head coach
LaTaryl Williams said. "As a freshman, we leaned on her to score and defend in the post and she did a great job. She was able to show more of her versatility and play more of her natural position as a forward this past season."
In her two seasons with Northwest, Jenkins averaged 6.6 rebounds and 5.6 points points per game in 49 career games. The Madison native also totaled 53 blocks over her career, including a team-best 35 blocks as a freshman.
Jenkins boasted nine games in double figures over the past two seasons, and had seven games with 10 or more rebounds. Her lone double-double came in her Northwest debut on November 1, 2022, when she recorded 15 points and 15 rebounds in a road win at Freed-Hardeman JV. Jenkins also netted a season-best 14 rebounds in a non-conference game against Holmes on Nov. 13, 2023.
"I am thrilled for Marian and her family, as they were dedicated and committed to our program during her time at Northwest," Williams added. "Mississippi College is getting a great student-athlete who will get things done both on and off the court."
Mississippi College competes in the Gulf South Conference (GSC) of the NCAA Division II level. The Lady Choctaws finished with a 13-15 overall record last season, including a 12-12 mark against GSC competition.
