CASPER, Wyo. - An otherwise tough night for Northwest steer wrestlers ended on a high note on Wednesday evening, as freshman
Christian Cagle placed sixth in the third go with a time of 4.9 seconds.
Cagle, a native of Canton, Ga., unofficially sits at eighth in the average standings and needs to remain near that slot to earn a spot in Saturday evening's championship round. Earlier this week, he recorded a 4.7-second result in the first go and a 10.5 mark in the second go, bringing his point total to 95 for the week and his average time to 20.1.
As for the rest of the Rangers' steer wrestling trio,
Kent Jordan received no score in the third go, bringing his average time to 21.1 for the week. The Tallassee, Ala. native is unofficially 15th in the average standings.
Both Cagle and Jordan will now play the waiting game, as 24 more steer wrestlers are expected to compete in the third go over the next two evenings, all in hopes of locking in one of the coveted top spots in the average standings for a chance to compete on Saturday.
Will Collier struggled with his steer in Wednesday's third go, but did record a time of 11.2 seconds. That put the Malden, Mo. native in 15th place for the third go, but 19th unofficially in the average.
Additionally, Cagle also competed earlier in the evening in saddle bronc riding, but was bucked off for no time. He currently sits at 17th in the average standings.
Northwest will have one more guaranteed ride this week, which will come in the third go of team roping on Friday evening withÂ
Laine Moore and his partner Tanner Brown (East Mississippi). The pair are hoping to make one final push to advance into Saturday's championship round.
