CASPER, Wyo. - Day one of the 2024 College National Finals Rodeo got off to a slow start for Northwest, as the Rangers failed to record a score in the bull riding and saddle bronc events.
Luke Stanley, the Rangers' lone representative in bull riding, received no score in his initial ride. However, the Mantachie native was far from the only one, as 33 other competitors were also bucked off with no score.
Only four of the 38 total competitors placed in the opening bull riding go. Stanley will try again in the slack round, which is scheduled for Monday morning.
Christian Cagle also competed on Sunday afternoon in saddle bronc riding, but did not record a score, joining 12 other competitors with the same luck. The Canton, Ga. native will also look for a better result in Monday morning's slack round.
Additionally, all five Northwest competitors are slated to compete on Monday, including the steer wrestling trio of Cagle,
Will Collier and
Kent Jordan. Team roper
Laine Moore will make his CNFR debut on Monday as well.
