MOORHEAD - For the second time in less than a week, Northwest guard
Kae'la Mitchell set a new career-high for points, scoring 27 in Monday's 57-51 road win at Mississippi Delta.
It was Mitchell's 11th double-figure game of the season and the sixth in the last seven games. Freshman
Mikayla Abram also swatted five shots from the Lady Trojans, bringing her season total to 49 blocks.
Although both teams struggled to find their offensive rhythm at times during the evening, the pace picked up over the last five minutes of the opening quarter. Mississippi Delta took a 19-15 lead into the second quarter, only for the Lady Rangers to outscore MDCC 19-11, taking a 34-30 halftime lead.
Northwest outscored the Lady Trojans 15-11 over the span of the third quarter, but both teams struggled during the final 10 minutes. Mississippi Delta narrowly outscored the Lady Rangers in the fourth quarter, but Northwest held on for the road victory.
Northwest shot 46 percent from the floor and 47 percent from three-point range. Mitchell was the only Lady Ranger to finish in double figures, while
Zaria Glover followed with eight points.
Jacia Hayes finished with six points and six rebounds, while
Angela Middleton added six rebounds of her own.
With the win, the Lady Rangers improved to 12-5 overall and 4-2 in the MACCC. Mississippi Delta dropped to 12-6 on the season and 2-6 in conference play.
Northwest will look to make it two straight conference wins on Thursday evening, as the Lady Rangers host Northeast at Howard Coliseum. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 P.M. on Ranger TV and Action News 5 Plus.
