SENATOBIA - Coahoma outscored Northwest by a 19-11 margin in the fourth quarter, as the Lady Rangers fell 72-68 in the program's third straight loss.
Northwest had three players reach double figures despite the loss, including a team-best 19 points from
Alorian Story. The Lady Rangers fell to 2-3 on the season, while Coahoma improved to 4-0 overall.
Cayla Myers and the Lady Tigers came in hot during the first quarter, hitting three of the team's six three-point attempts. Coahoma also shot 53 percent from the floor, earning a 22-14 lead by the end of the first quarter.
Northwest rallied back in the second quarter, outscoring the Lady Tigers, 21-12. The Lady Rangers went from shooting 44 percent in the opening quarter to 50 percent in the second, while Coahoma's shooting dropped to 33 percent from the floor.
Though Northwest led 35-34 at halftime, the Lady Tigers responded back on Kamil Washum's three-pointer, pulling back ahead by two points. Both teams traded jabs throughout the rest of the third quarter, but the Lady Rangers ended the period with a four-point advantage, 57-53.Â
Takera Bland opened the fourth quarter with a layup that put Northwest back ahead by six, but Coahoma came back on a 10-3 run to regain a 63-62 lead. The game would remain close down the stretch, but the Lady Rangers were unable to reclaim the lead down the stretch.
Northwest finished the game shooting 43 percent from the floor, including a dismal 21 percent shooting in the fourth quarter. The Lady Rangers also shot 29 percent from beyond the arc and 57 percent from the free throw line. In comparison, Coahoma shot 42 percent on the evening and 33 percent from three-point range.
Aside from Story's team-high 19 points, Bland finished with 17 points, followed by 12 from
Mariah Reed-Jones. Story also pulled down a team-high seven rebounds, followed by six apiece from Jones and
Layla Hampton.
Myers led four Coahoma players in double figures, scoring 28 points with four steals. Cy'Nara Robinson finished with a double-double, scoring 12 points with 11 rebounds. Washum and Jamaica Young finished with 10 and 11 points, respectively, with Young also tallying eight rebounds.
Next up for Northwest is a road trip to seventh-ranked Three Rivers College in Poplar Bluff, Mo. Tipoff is scheduled for 5 P.M.
