Carter, Jones Named to PFF Preseason All-Conference Teams

SENATOBIA - With college football season less than two months away, a pair of former Northwest football standouts are garnering more preseason recognition for their respective programs.

Receiver Jacoby Jones and offensive lineman Davion Carter were named to the Pro Football Focus preseason all-conference teams on Monday, with Jones (Ohio) earning First Team All-MAC accolades and Carter (Memphis) garnering Second Team All-AAC honors. Both players also earned preseason attention earlier this summer, with Jones earning Third Team All-MAC honors by Athlon Sports and Carter racking up Fourth Team All-AAC honors by Phil Steele's College Football Preview.

Jones, a Tunica native, had a breakout junior season for Ohio in 2022, racking up 45 catches for 776 yards and six touchdowns. He helped the Bobcats to a 10-4 overall record and a runner-up finish in the MAC Championship Game, before capping off the season with a 30-27 overtime victory against Wyoming in the Barstool Sports Arizona Bowl.

In three seasons at Northwest, Jones helped the Rangers to a 23-6 stretch from 2019-21, consisting of three playoff appearances and two MACCC championships. Northwest also captured the MACCC North Division title in 2020-21 and advanced to the inaugural NJCAA Division I Football Playoffs.

Jones hauled in 63 catches for 929 yards over his three-year career, earning five touchdowns and averaging 14.7 yards per catch.

A native of Pearl, Carter appeared in 12 games last season for Memphis, earning 11 starts. He was part of an offensive front that ranked 21st nationally in passing offense and 22nd in scoring offense.

Carter and his offensive line helped Memphis to a 7-6 overall record and a 38-10 win against Utah State in the SERVPRO First Responder Bowl. Prior to Memphis, he spent two seasons on the Northwest offensive front, helping the Rangers to back-to-back MACCC championships and the 2021 NJCAA Division I Football Playoffs.
