Draws Revealed for NJCAA Men's Tennis Championship

Matches to begin Monday morning through Friday, May 19

MCKINNEY, Texas - On the eve of opening day in the NJCAA Division I Men's Tennis Championship, the full draw for singles and doubles competition has been announced.

Unlike the dual-match format the MACCC uses throughout the regular season, this tournament consists of six singles and three doubles brackets. Teams pile up points for winning matches, earning two points for the first win in the championship draw, and one in the backdraw. Beyond that, it's one point and a half-point, respectively.

Chris Albert will compete in flight one of the singles bracket, opening up at 8 A.M. Monday against Sebastian Gamez of Wallace State-Hanceville. The winner of the match will face Diego Dalisay of Tyler Junior College, who received a first-round bye.

Ian Gordon is scheduled to begin competition at 9:15 A.M. on Monday, facing off against Antonin Leborne of Harford Community College in the opening stage of flight two singles. The winner of that match will advance to face Juan Carlos Garcia of Tyler Junior College, who also received a first round bye.

Kaleb Parish is slotted in the third flight of singles competition and is slated to face Gabriel Meirelles (Prairie State College) at 9:15 A.M. The winner would then advance to battle the winner of Will McCullough (Meridian) and Prince Gondonou (Iowa Central).

Bratton Willoughby is scheduled for a 10:30 A.M. match in singles flight four, facing off against Mario Molina of USC-Sumter. The winner of this match will advance to square off with the victor of the matchup between Parker Lyons (Meridian) and Ethan Cuzzort (Coastal Alabama-South).

John David Nelson will also begin his journey through flight five at 10:30 against Filip Bajant of Harford Community College. The winner of that match will take on Emilio Vila (Tyler Junior College), who also earned a first-round bye.

Samuel Turner will get the nod for flight six, the final bracket of singles competition. Turner will open at 10:30 Felipe Osorio of Jacksonville College, with the winner taking on Nafiralo Ouattara (Iowa Central).

There will also be three doubles flights, and Northwest is represented in each draw as well. The No. 1 tandem of Albert and Gordon will play against the duo of Juan Cachaza and Davis Rowton (Lewis & Clark Community College) at 12:15 P.M. on Monday.

In flight two, Turner and Willoughby will face the USC-Sumter duo of Mathis Collignon and Andres Viedma. Nelson and Parish will team up in flight three against the duo of Benjamin Ranby-Al and Antoine Schaub (Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College), with both matches slated for 1 P.M. start times.
