Rangers Drop Midweek Contest to Parkland College

Northwest to resume MACCC play at Copiah-Lincoln Saturday

SENATOBIA - A three-run frame in the top of the fifth inning helped No. 20 Parkland College pull away from Northwest on Wednesday afternoon, as the Rangers fell 5-1 to the Cobras.

Parkland College jumped out in front in the top of the first, only for Northwest to tie the contest in the home half of the inning with an RBI-single from Cade Leatherwood. The score remained tied at 1-1 until the fifth, when Logan Reidelberger led off with a solo home run, followed by an RBI-single and a sac fly.

Trailing 4-1, the Rangers got a leadoff double from Dawson Griffin and another base hit from Griffin in one of the later innings, but Northwest was unable to string base hits together. The Cobras tacked on another run on a sac fly in the top of the seventh, pulling away for the 5-1 lead.

Northwest and the Cobras both finished with seven base hits, but the Rangers were unable to string base hits together for a rally. Griffin, Leatherwood and Cade Greer each finished with two base hits, while Jacob Hill also picked up a base hit.

Aside from the fifth inning, the Rangers got solid outings from all three pitchers used. Judah Buckner started the contest and matched his season-high of six strikeouts through 4.2 innings, while Connor McCaslin and Zach Beasley combined for four strikeouts and one unearned run allowed.

William O'Gorman picked up the victory on the mound for the Cobras, tossing seven strikeouts against one walk through six complete frames. Charlie Marisca went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Parkland's offense.

Northwest (13-9) will step back into conference play on Saturday, March 18 at Copiah-Lincoln. The doubleheader is scheduled for 2/5 P.M. in Wesson, with both games carried live on colinathletics.com.
