Northwest Garners Split Against Copiah-Lincoln

24th-ranked Ranger men improve to 3-1 in MACCC play

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SENATOBIA - Doubles duo Chris Albert and Ian Gordon scored an upset at the No. 1 slot and Bratton Willoughby clinched the match in a 10-point tiebreaker in singles, as No. 24 Northwest battled to a 6-3 victory against 23rd-ranked Copiah-Lincoln on Tuesday afternoon.

Northwest was less fortunate on the women's side, but the Lady Rangers did earn a couple individual wins in singles play during the 7-2 loss to No. 21 Copiah-Lincoln. The Lady Rangers dropped to 1-6 on the season with the loss, while the Ranger men jumped to 3-4 overall and 3-1 against MACCC competition.

Thanks in part to Albert and Gordon's 8-6 victory in the No. 1 position, Northwest swept the Wolves in doubles, with Willoughby and Samuel Turner winning in a tiebreaker on court two, while the duo of John David Nelson and Kaleb Parish scored an 8-2 win in the No. 3 slot.

Turner continued his hot streak in the No. 6 slot, earning a 6-2, 6-0 win against August Sullivan. Although the Rangers would drop matches on courts one, two and five, Willoughby battled to a 6-2, 5-7 [11-9] win in the No. 3 position against Lawson Pearson, clinching the victory for Northwest. Parish also collected a 6-0, 6-4 win for good measure against Caleb Myers in the No. 4 slot.

Although the Lady Rangers endured another conference loss, it wasn't all bad news. Grace Ann Wade picked up a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 3 against Co-Lin's Keegan Thurman, while Raney Peacock rallied back for a 5-7, 7-6 [11-9] victory against Anna Rutledge. Additionally, Wade and Amelia Anding dropped a close 9-7 doubles loss to Thurman and Valeria Rodriguez, while Peacock and Holly Stewart also battled to an 8-5 loss in the No. 1 spot.

Northwest will take a short break from competition before returning to the court on Tuesday, March 7 at Southwest Mississippi. The Bears and Lady Bears share identical 2-4 records in conference play.

First serve is scheduled for 2 P.M. in Summit.
