SENATOBIA - Friday marked a special day in the history of the recently-revived Northwest tennis program, as the Rangers and Lady Rangers competed in their first official match since the spring of 2017.

Unfortunately for Northwest, the day did not end in a victory for either team, as Blue Mountain Christian swept the dual match with a 6-3 win on the women's side and a 9-0 shutout in men's competition. The Toppers are a nationally-ranked program in the NAIA.

In women's singles, Rivers Tarsi and Raney Peacock won by forfeit in the No. 1 and No. 2 matches. Amelia Anding lost 6-1, 6-0 to Tsveti Trifonova, while Grace Ann Wade dropped a 6-0, 6-1 decision to Kristina Kozakova. Holly Stewart and Lia Ramos were shutout in straight sets to Annabella Natalini and Kiara MacKay on courts five and six.

Ramos and Tarsi won by forfeit in doubles, earning the third and final point for Northwest. The tandem of Anding and Wade were shutout 8-0 by Kozakova and Trifonova, while Peacock and Stewart were shutout by the same score to the duo of MacKay and Natalini.

In men's singles, freshman Noah Lary battled closely with BMCU's Victor Lopez at No. 6 singles, ultimately dropping a 6-1, 6-3 decision. At No. 2, Chris Albert dropped a close opening set, 6-4, before being shutout in the second set to Marco Inga.

Both Nelson and Willoughby dropped a 6-2 decision in their respective opening sets at No. 4 and No. 5, before both were shutout in the second set. Ian Gordon and Kaleb Parish were shutout in straight sets on courts one and three, respectively.

Parish and Samuel Turner fell 8-3 in No. 2 doubles to the duo of Inga and Lopez, while the Rangers also suffered losses in No. 1 and No. 3 doubles.

Northwest will have a quick turnaround before the next match, as the Rangers will travel to Auburn, Ala. on Saturday afternoon to face Coastal Alabama-South. The match is scheduled for a 2 P.M. start time.
