Box Score SENATOBIA - Wednesday's conference opener didn't go in favor of the Northwest tennis teams, as the Rangers and Lady Rangers both fell by identical 9-0 finals to Meridian.

Meridian was ranked 13th in the most recent ITA Women's Tennis rankings, while the Eagles were also slotted 17th in the nation. The Northwest men are still ranked No. 24 overall until the next batch of rankings are released in March.

On the women's side, Raney Peacock provided the closest match against the Lady Eagles' Ruthie Storment, falling 6-1, 4-6 [10-8]. Peacock and Holly Stewart also finished with the closest women's doubles match, falling 8-3 to the Meridian duo of Storment and Isabella Quintero.

Three singles matches were forced into tiebreakers at the four through six positions. Bratton Willoughby took Meridian's Parker Lyons to a tiebreaker on No. 4, falling 6-2, 4-6 [10-8], while John David Nelson fell by a 6-0, 3-6 [10-5] decision at No. 5 to Denzel Jones. Additionally, Samuel Turner battled to a close 7-5, 4-6 [10-4] loss to Meridian's Nathan Smith.

In doubles play, the Rangers were swept, with the duo of Nelson and Ian Gordon falling 8-2 to Jones/Smith on No. 3.

Both Northwest teams dropped to 0-3 following the losses. The Rangers and Lady Rangers will host Hinds on Tuesday, beginning at 2 P.M.
