SENATOBIA - Year two of the
LaTaryl Williams era got off to a winning start on Friday afternoon, as Northwest opened the 2023-24 campaign with a 74-52 victory against Freed-Hardeman JV.
Northwest opened the first quarter with a 13-8 lead, but Freed-Hardeman JV stuck around throughout the contest. The Lady Lions trailed Northwest 32-24 at the halftime break and the Lady Rangers extended the lead to 57-38 by the end of the third quarter.
Down the stretch, Northwest outscored the Lady Lions with a narrow 17-14 margin throughout the final 10 minutes, but it was more than enough to secure the victory for the Lady Rangers.
With the win, Northwest earned the season-opening victory for the second consecutive season under Williams. Sophomore
Kae'la Mitchell led all scorers with 14 points off the bench, followed by a 13-point effort from
Zaria Glover and a 12-point performance by
Marian Jenkins.
Northwest will return to action on Monday, November 6 against Dyersburg State. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 P.M. from Howard Coliseum, with live coverage available on Ranger TV (
