Mississippi Delta Hands Northwest Third Straight Loss

MOORHEAD - A five-point deficit after one complete quarter slowly grew larger for Northwest in Tuesday's 69-45 loss at Mississippi Delta.

Northwest fell to 1-3 in conference play and 6-7 on the season, marking the Lady Rangers' first dip below .500 since November 18. The Lady Trojans jumped to 10-5 overall and 2-2 in the MACCC.

Mississippi Delta led 15-10 entering the second quarter and held Northwest to just eight points before halftime. The Lady Rangers had difficulty climbing out of the 31-18 halftime hole and fell behind by 20 points after three periods of play.

For the evening, Northwest shot 25 percent against a 44 percent output from Mississippi Delta. The Lady Rangers were also just 1-of-21 from beyond the arc for a season low five percent.

Kae'la Mitchell led the Lady Rangers' scoring efforts with 10 points, good for her sixth career game in double figures. Alexus Lindsey also provided eight points for Northwest, while Sydney Brazil and Kennidi Dean came away with six points each off the bench.

Manaca Keyes and Marian Jenkins combined for 14 rebounds, with eight of those going to Keyes. Despite being held scoreless, Sequoia White and Rebekah Pilcher came away with team highs of three steals and two blocks, respectively.

Mississippi Delta was paced by an 18-point outing from Ti'Alone Banks and a 10-point, 10-rebound double-double from Cha'Myrean Ellis. Three more players finished with nine points, including a near double-double from Tariyah Washington.

Northwest will aim to get back on track on Thursday, January 19 against Northeast. The Lady Tigers (5-9, 1-3 MACCC) are coming off a 64-53 loss to Mississippi Gulf Coast and have lost the last seven meetings against the Lady Rangers.

Tipoff for Thursday's showdown against the Lady Rangers and Lady Tigers is set for 5:30 P.M. at Howard Coliseum. Fans unable to attend can catch all the action live on Ranger TV or Action News 5 Plus.
