JACKSON - After a strong performance in a season-opening win against Mississippi Gulf Coast, Northwest sophomore defensive lineman Jykeveous Hibbler has been chosen as the MACCC Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday morning.

Hibbler, a native of Louisville, totaled five tackles in the win against MGCCC, swarming the Bulldogs' backfield with 1.5 sacks and 3.5 tackles-for-loss that resulted in 24 lost yards. He also finished as one of two players with a pair of quarterback hurries, joining fellow sophomore Kiyon Williams.

Now in his third season with the Rangers thanks to a year of COVID-19 eligibility, Hibbler has become a vital piece of the Northwest defensive line throughout his JUCO career. Last season, he totaled 21 tackles, seven hurries, 3.5 sacks and two forced fumbles, improving upon his freshman numbers of 11 total tackles, 3.5 tackles-for-loss, 2.5 sacks and two hurries.

This is the first conference Player of the Week honor for Hibbler, who will help guide the Rangers' defense into a rematch of last year's MACCC title bout against Hinds on Thursday at 6:30 P.M. Catch all the action from Raymond on Ranger TV.
