SENATOBIA - Before the start of Tuesday's match between Northwest and Hinds, both teams were still seeking their first conference victories of the season, setting up for a thrilling showdown.
Despite a fierce effort from the Rangers, the match ended in heartbreak for Northwest, as Hinds came away with the 2-1 triumph.
Locked in a scoreless tie for the first 28 minutes of the match, Sonny Bizure broke the ice with a goal for Hinds in the 29th minute. However, the Eagles' lead didn't last long, as
Joncarlo Dunlop put one through off an assist from
Jesus Villegas in the 33rd minute, tying the score at 1-1.
Just before halftime, Hinds got what would ultimately be the game-winner, as Jovan Mihajlovic found the foot of Ladorian White in the 42nd minute.
Northwest got a handful of good looks in the second half in hopes of tying the match, even drawing goalkeeper Tyler Ivory out of the net in the 79th minute. However, back-to-back shots from
Sidney Black and
Ethan Barnes were still blocked by Ivory on the ground, denying the equalizer for the Rangers.
Hinds finished with a 17-12 margin in total shots, with a 10-7 edge in shots on-goal. Both teams combined for 25 fouls, with 15 of those coming against the Rangers.
Connor Young stopped eight of the Eagles' shots in a full 90 minutes of action, while Ivory provided six saves for Hinds.
Northwest will now set its sights on Friday's 1 P.M. match at Holmes in Ridgeland. The Bulldogs (3-3-1, 0-3-1 MACCC) are coming off back-to-back losses against Hinds and Jones College by a combined margin of 8-1.
