RICHMOND, Ky. - Former Northwest linebacker
Kylan Robinson has yet to play a regular season game at his new home, but the now-Eastern Kentucky Colonel is already earning some high recognition.
Robinson, a junior, was of 18 Colonels named to Phil Steele's Preseason All-ASUNÂ teams, garnering Third Team honors from the national publication. The Southaven native was one of 14 members of the 2021 Northwest squad to sign or walk-on at the four-year level.
Robinson was an instrumental piece of the Rangers' defense during back-to-back MACCC title runs, recording 139 career tackles, 12.5 tackles-for-loss, six hurries and five sacks. As a sophomore, he was named Second Team All-MACCC and posted 74 total tackles, the second-most on the team only behind
Sam Brumfield.
While helping Northwest to a conference title and the National Community College Football Championship in 2020, Robinson collected 43 tackles, two sacks and a pass breakup. He also earned a career-high 13 tackles and three tackles-for-loss in the season-opener against Itawamba.
During his freshman campaign, Robinson played in 11 contests, totaling 25 tackles, three tackles-for-loss, two sacks and a quarterback hurry.
EKU will open the season on Friday, September 2 at Eastern Michigan. The Colonels are coming off a 7-4 record in 2021, which included a 4-2 mark in conference play.Â
