MONTICELLO, Ark. - Colby Burgess' sixth-place finish in bull riding helped the Northwest men's rodeo team finish ninth in last weekend's Boll Weevil Stampede, hosted by the University of Arkansas at Monticello.
Burgess was the only Northwest men's athlete to finish in the final results, helping the men's team to 40 points. The Northwest women did not place.
Currently, the Northwest men are 10th in the NIRA's Ozark Region standings with 530 total points, while the Lady Rangers rank ninth with 235 team points. Burgess is one of a handful of Rangers looking to crack the top three of the individual standings, as he sits at fourth place among bull riders with 320 points. The freshman from Houlka is just 25 points out of third place and 45 out of second place. (The top three riders in each event qualify for the College National Finals Rodeo in June.)
Elsewhere,
Cody Gilbert and Zachary Johnson rank eighth and ninth in bull riding, respectively. In barrel racing, freshman
Riley Kate Lenagar is sixth with 235 total points.
Northwest will conclude the regular season at home, hosting the annual Ranger Rodeo this weekend at the Northwest Multi-Purpose Arena. The event runs from Thursday, April 28 to Friday, April 30 and serves as the finale for the Ozark Region. For more information on tickets for this weekend's event, click
