FORT WORTH, Texas - Northwest rodeo has been well-represented at this week's Wrangler National Finals Rodeo, but coach Will Lummus isn't the only Ranger rodeo connection gaining national attention.
Since finishing his stint at Northwest, former bull rider
Jacorey Golden has turned his attention to the sport of bullfighting. This week, the Houston native has been in competition at the 2022 Ultimate Bullfighting World Finals in Fort Worth, further climbing the ranks of the sport.
Golden was defeated in Round 2 earlier this week by 2020 UBF World Champion and current No. 1 ranked Chance Moorman, falling by a score of 86-85. However, the loss did not eliminate Golden from competition, as he will compete in Friday's second-chance bracket for a renewed chance at advancing to the finals.
In freestyle bullfighting, a bullfighter competes for 60 seconds against a fighting bull predominantly of Spanish descent in an effort to score points for maneuvers performed during the one-minute competition. Unlike traditional bullfighting, the animals are not harmed. Bullfighters are judged solely on their ability to perform gravity-defying acrobatic stunts as close to the bull as possible without getting hit.*
