Long Scoring Drought Dooms Lady Rangers in Home Loss

Box Score SENATOBIA - For nearly 15 minutes, Northwest was unable to find a basket in the Lady Rangers' 55-42 home loss to National Park College on Friday afternoon.

After gaining an early lead on the Lady Nighthawks in the first quarter, Northwest watched as National Park took over the lead and an 18-10 advantage at the end of the opening period. From there, the Lady Rangers were held to just three points in the second quarter, falling behind 32-13 at halftime.

National Park continued to build its lead through most of the third quarter, although the Lady Rangers showed signs of closing the gap a little. Trailing 50-27, Northwest rallied back over the final 10 minutes of regulation, outscoring the Lady Nighthawks 15-5. However, the Lady Rangers were ultimately unable to complete the comeback.

Freshman Rebekah Pilcher led Northwest with 15 points, all from three-point land. One of her three-pointers also served as the Lady Rangers' only basket in the second period.

Lily Whitley also provided eight points off the bench after being held scoreless in the first half. Zaria Glover also provided six second half points for Northwest.

National Park was led by 10 points from India Atkins and nine points apiece from Janayi Baker, Amaya Coakley and Jhyla Calvin.

With the loss, Northwest has dropped to 3-4 on the season after sporting a 3-0 start. The Lady Rangers will look to bounce back after Thanksgiving Break, hosting East Central on Monday, November 28 at 5:30 P.M.
