WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. - A two-game stint in the Greyhound Classic did not go as planned for the Northwest Lady Rangers, as the host ASU Mid-South provided the Lady Rangers their first loss of the season on Friday, while National Park College also came away with a win in Saturday afternoon's finale.
In Friday's matchup against the Lady Greyhounds, Northwest raced out to a 23-14 advantage by the end of the first quarter and took a 35-26 lead into the locker room. However, ASU Mid-South rallied back with a strong third quarter, outscoring the Lady Rangers 17-6 to take a narrow 43-41 lead.
Northwest was unable to fully recover from the third quarter gut punch, as the Lady Rangers were outdone 15-9 over the final 10 minutes of the contest.
Northwest didn't fare much better in Saturday's showdown with National Park College, as the Lady Nighthawks led 19-15 after the opening quarter of play. Though the Lady Rangers were able to cut the deficit to three at halftime, Northwest would be outscored 20-8 in the third period, allowing National Park College to earn a 50-35 advantage.Â
Momentum stayed with National Park College throughout the fourth period, although the Lady Rangers made an effort to close the gap. Ultimately, the victory went to the Lady Nighthawks, 62-46.
Now 3-2 on the season, Northwest will look to bounce back later this week in the Northwest Classic, running from Thursday, November 17 to Friday, November 18. THe Lady Rangers will host SAU Tech on Thursday at 7 P.M., before closing out the invitational with a Friday 2 P.M. contest against National Park College.
