SUMMIT - Northwest scored a pair of goals in the first 10 minutes of regulation, setting the tone for a 7-0 road win at Southwest Mississippi on Friday evening.
Jennifer Enriquez and
Avery Hooker led the charge with two goals for the eighth-ranked Lady Rangers, who improved to 8-1-2 on the season and 4-1-2 against MACCC opponents. Southwest Mississippi dropped to 4-7 overall and 2-4 in conference play.
Enriquez got the Lady Rangers on the board quickly in the third minute, thanks to assists from
Jadyn Duran and
Mia Kate Cade. Just a few minutes later, Duran scored one herself off an assist from
Eliza Olive, rapidly giving Northwest a 2-0 lead.
Almost 15 minutes went by without any further damage, until Duran connected with Enriquez once more in the 25th minute, giving the sophomore her fifth goal of the season. Just before halftime,
Dani Rodriguez added one more score for the Lady Rangers, thanks to an assist from
Addison Vargas, helping Northwest to a 4-0 lead.
In the 72nd minute, Olive would score a goal of her own off an assist from Northwest career-leader Enriquez, pushing the lead to 5-0. Hooker would then add two more goals late in the 75th and 86th minutes, putting the icing on the cake of the Lady Rangers' second consecutive win.
Offensively, Northwest controlled the tempo for nearly the entire match, outshooting Southwest Mississippi 22-4. Fifteen of the Lady Rangers' shots came on-goal, led by three from Hooker and two apiece from Enriquez and Olive.
Addy McCann and
Amelia Anding split duties in the net, with McCann going the full first half. Both goalkeepers earned two saves apiece.
With the Lady Rangers' upcoming match against Southwest Tennessee now canceled, Northwest will have a few days off before returning to action on Friday, October 14 against Copiah-Lincoln. Kickoff from Senatobia is scheduled for 1 P.M. on Ranger TV.
