SENATOBIA - Northwest scored one goal apiece in the first and second halves, as the seventh-ranked Lady Rangers netted a 2-0 triumph against 20th-ranked Copiah-Lincoln on Friday afternoon.
With the win, Northwest notched its eighth shutout of the season, the most since 2017. The victory also improved the Lady Rangers to 9-1-2 overall and 5-1-2 against MACCC competition. Copiah-Lincoln dropped to 10-2-1 with the loss and 5-1-2 in conference play.
Freshman
Dani Rodriguez helped get the Lady Rangers on the board in the 15th minute, scoring her fourth goal of the season off an assist from
Avery Hooker. Northwest was unable to add any more points in the first half, but the Lady Rangers went to the locker room with a 9-1 shot advantage.
Northwest continued to come out aggressively in the second half, notching 18 total shots and allowing only two shots for the entire match. The dagger would come in the 54th minute, when
Melinda Hernandez connected with
Eliza Olive for her fourth goal of the season and a 2-0 lead.
In all, Northwest totaled 27 shots with two allowed. Fifteen of the Lady Rangers' shots counted on-goal and Northwest also recorded 13 corner kicks in the win.
Now on a three-match winning streak, Northwest now turns its attention to the final two matches of the season, beginning with a showdown against Meridian on Tuesday, October 18. The Lady Rangers will then close out the regular season against Itawamba on Friday, October 21, with both matches taking place in Senatobia.
