SENATOBIA - Despite being locked in a scoreless battle at the halftime break, Northwest surrendered three second half goals to drop a 3-0 decision to Itawamba on Friday afternoon.
Northwest kept the visiting team at bay throughout the first half, despite the Indians firing off 12 shots while holding the Rangers to just four. Itawamba finally broke through in the 59th minute, when Anthony Jones tapped one past
Connor Young for the first goal of the match.
While the match remained within reach for the next 18 minutes, Northwest was just unable to find the equalizer. The Indians would put the match away for good with two quick goals in the 77th minute, the first coming from Ian Thomas and the other from Maryo Elsheikh.
One bright spot in the shutout was Young earning 11 saves, bringing his season total to 118, a new-single season record for any Northwest goalkeeper. Young's total shatters the previous single-season record of 116 saves, set back in 2017 by Carson Tackett.Â
Northwest concludes the 2022 season at 2-12 overall and 1-9 against MACCC competition. Itawamba moved to 8-4-2 on the season and 5-3-1 in conference play.
