Lady Rangers Celebrate Labor Day with Shutout Victory

M.J. Loeffel Notches Second Hat Trick; Moves Into 10th All-Time in Scoring

SENATOBIA - If Northwest lost any of its punch over the three-day weekend, it didn't seem to show on Monday, as the Lady Rangers used three goals from sophomore M.J. Loeffel to pick up a 6-0 victory against St. Charles.

Loeffel, a second team All-MACCC selection last season, earned her second career hat trick during the victory and ran her career scoring total to 12 goals, tying her with Cheyenne Smith (2018-19) for 10th in career goals.

As for the match itself, both teams were unable to get anything across for the first 25 minutes of action, but the Lady Rangers stayed on the attack for a majority of the contest. Loeffel would provide the game's first goal off a throw-in from Molly Rose in the 28th minute, and the rout was on from there.

Less than 10 minutes later, a hard foul in the box set Jennifer Enriquez up for a penalty kick goal to give Northwest a 2-0 lead at halftime.

Northwest owned a 10-6 shot advantage at the break, but the Lady Rangers would quickly widen the gap there with 17 total shots in the second half, while holding St. Charles to only a pair the rest of the way.

Melinda Hernandez would also help Northwest pull away on the scoreboard, as the freshman midfielder added a goal just five minutes into the second half.

Later, in the 78th minute, Loeffel would strike once again off another assist from Rose, stretching the lead to an insurmountable 4-0 gap. The scoring did not stop there however, as Ally Bailey finally connected on a shot attempt in the 82nd minute off a feed from Malaesha Liddell.

With the clock winding down under a minute, Loeffel nabbed her hat trick off an assist from Jessica Jaimes, solidifying the 6-0 non-division victory.

Northwest finished with a 27-8 total shot margin and led 14-2 in shots on-goal. Maggie Olive had a quiet day between the posts, earning two saves in approximately 70 minutes of action.

Now sitting at 5-0 on the season, the Lady Rangers will finally set thier sights on the MACCC North Division opener on Friday evening at East Central. The match will be held at Bailey Stadium in Decatur and is slated for a 5 P.M. start time.
