SENATOBIA - After an early goal from Jesus Villegas provided Northwest with some quick momentum, Itawamba scored three unanswered goals to claim a 3-1 victory on Wednesday afternoon.
Villegas drove nearly the length of the pitch to strike on the Rangers' first and only goal in the sixth minute of the match, but the tide would turn in favor of ICC midway through the first half, as the Indians began to grab the momentum.
Itawamba finished the first half with 11 total shots, but it took the Indians until the 43rd minute to deliver an answer on the scoreboard, thanks to a goal by Billy Gipp that deflected off the hands of Northwest keeper
Xzavier Paylor.
Tied at 1-1 entering the second half, the Indians got another unusual goal off a deep corner kick from the other side of the pitch by Connor Murphy, giving Itawamba a 2-1 lead in the 47th minute.
Later, ICC would deliver the final blow off an Anthony Jones goal in the 62nd minute, lifting the Indians to a 3-1 advantage.
Despite the lopsided 26-6 shot total, Northwest had a couple good looks to even things up in the second half, including a shot that bounced off the crossbar. Paylor would also net 11 saves in the loss, marking his fourth match with 10 or more stops.
Northwest fell to 1-6 overall and 1-1 in MACCC North Division competition with the loss. The Rangers will return to action on Friday, September 24 at Holmes, a match scheduled for a 3 P.M. start time in Ridgeland.
