JACKSON - With the 2020-21 basketball season now in the rearview mirror for both Northwest programs, the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference formally announced its all-conference honorees on Thursday afternoon.
Guard
Tierra Trotter and forward
Kolten Blakeney, both freshmen, earned second team all-conference accolades for the Lady Rangers, while sophomore forward
DeAntoni Gordon was selected as the lone men's representative, receiving first team honors.
Trotter quickly developed into the most consistent guard for the Lady Rangers this season, as the Bryant, Ark. native reached double figures in the first five games of her career. She ended the season as the team's leading scorer, averaging 14.9 points per game and finishing with 10 or more points in 11 of the Lady Rangers' 16 games this season.
Trotter also ended the season as the team's leader in steals (25) and third in both rebounds (70) and assists (34). Her career-best performance came in the Lady Rangers' second round playoff loss at Itawamba, where she scored 27 points with six rebounds, four steals and three assists.
Blakeney earned second team All-MACCC honors after averaging a team-high 9.3 rebounds and 10.1 points per game, good for third in scoring. The Taylorsville native also compiled 18 blocks on the season and 13 steals, tying for second in that category with
Morgan Hodum.
Blakeney also posted five double-doubles on the season, including a career-best 18 points and 16 rebounds in a loss at Holmes on March 4.
Gordon finished as the men's leading scorer and leading rebounder, averaging 14.6 points and 5.2 boards per game. The Mobile, Ala. native and Wichita State transfer also led the team with 20 blocks, including four apiece against East Mississippi and Jones College.
Gordon's 27-point, eight-rebound effort in a playoff victory at Jones College on April 1 also helped him earn MACCC Player of the Week honors earlier this week.
Northwest finished the season at 5-11 overall on the women's side, which included a victory against Northeast in the play-in round of the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament. The Ranger men compiled an 8-8 overall record, which ended with a close loss to top-seeded Pearl River in the Region 23 quarterfinal round on Tuesday.
This season also marked the second consecutive postseason appearance for women's head coach
Troy Howell and men's coach
Shane Oakley.
