SENATOBIA - A pair of Meridian goals in the final 10 minutes of regulation broke a 2-2 tie, as Northwest fell 4-2 to the Eagles on Thursday afternoon.
Ethan Peterson provided the first punch for Northwest just four minutes in, but Meridian answered back less than two minutes later on a goal from Felipe Pansica, tying the match at 1-1.
Meridian took the lead on a goal in the 19th minute and the score remained locked at 2-1 through the first half and for a majority of the second half.
Northwest struck back on a rare goal in the 78th minute, as a punt from goalkeeper
Dustin Brown drifted down the field and into the opposite net. However, the celebration was short-lived, as the Eagles scored twice in the final 10 minutes.
Meridian outshot the Rangers 34-19 and 15-12 on-goal. The Eagles also took 10 corner kicks against one from Northwest.
Brown collected 11 saves in 85 minutes, before exiting due to injury.Â
Northwest fell to 0-3 on the season, while the Eagles improved to 1-2 overall. The Rangers are slated to open division competition on Monday, April 12 at East Central.
