DECATUR - Northwest didn't let a plethora of injuries affect them in Monday's 1-1 draw at East Central.
Using only 12 active players and one substitution, the Rangers battled through regulation and two overtime periods to earn the tie, improving their record to 0-3-1 overall and 0-0-1 in division competition.
A full defensive effort was on display for Northwest, as the Rangers allowed one goal on 24 targeted shots and 41 total attempts. Freshman and emergency goalkeeper
Blaine Galbraith netted 23 saves, a single-game record for any Northwest goalkeeper.
East Central got on the board in the 13th minute, as a ball deflected off a Northwest player in the box for an own goal. The Rangers would respond in the 35th minute, as
Peyton Coker blasted in a free kick to tie the match.
Despite an aggressive offensive performance from the Warriors, East Central failed to push another shot past Galbraith for the remainder of the match. The freshman from Lewisburg played the entire match in the net, except for a 44-second stretch in the second overtime period when he was issued a yellow card.
Northwest took 13 shots on the day, with seven on goal. Both teams were whistled for 14 fouls apiece and seven cautions were issued, including four to the Rangers.
Northwest will resume competition next Tuesday, April 20, with a 7 P.M. contest at Hinds.Â
