WESSON - A header from sophomore
Dylan Riley with three seconds left was enough to force extra time, but Northwest still came up short in a 2-1 double overtime battle at Copiah-Lincoln.
Riley's tying goal came off a corner kick from
Dereck Gomez, the first career goal and assist for both players.
A scoreless draw ended early in the second half, as Eli Fratesi got the Wolves on the board in the 47th minute, as Co-Lin held the 1-0 advantage until the final seconds of regulation.
With neither team able to connect in overtime, the match continued to a second overtime, where a penalty kick allowed the Wolves to win it on the golden goal in the 107th minute of the match.
Co-Lin out-shot Northwest 23-15 and 15-8 on goal. The Rangers were also whistled for 16 fouls, compared to just eight for the Wolves.
Dustin Brown collected six saves before suffering an injury in the 62nd minute. Freshman
Blaine Galbraith then checked in for the final 46 minutes, totaling seven saves.
With the loss, Northwest opens the season at 0-1 overall. The Rangers will try to notch a victory in the win column on Monday, April 5 in a 3 P.M. road match at Southwest Mississippi.
