SENATOBIA - Northwest sophomore
Cody Dowell took home the Rangers' top finish with a third place result in barrel racing during last weekend's Ranger Rodeo, the regular season finale for the NIRA's Ozark Region slate.
Dowell placed second in Thursday evening's short-go with a time of 13.74, earning 30 points and finishing just behind East Mississippi's Jaylie Matthews, who would go on to be the eventual winner in Saturday evening's championship round. Dowell earned another 10 points in the second round, running her weekend average to 27.65 with 100 total points.
Dowell's finish in barrel racing would be the only team points scored for the Rangers over the weekend, as Northwest finished with 100 team points and a final result of seventh place. The men's team did not place, despite having four bull riders compete -
Jacorey Golden, Zachary Johnson,
Cody Gilbert and
Jacob Hodges.
With the 2020-21 regular season officially in the books, Northwest finishes the season ninth in the men's standings (350 points) and 10th in the women's standings (130 points). Individually, Golden finishes the season eighth overall in the bull riding standings, with 190 total points. Dowell earned 100 points for a 16th-place finish, while Brandon and
Brennan Tomlinson finished 19th overall with 80 points in team roping.
