Box Score GOODMAN - Northwest clung to a one-point lead down the stretch, but a game-winning basket from Holmes' Katie Powers with 3.5 seconds left sent the Lady Rangers down with a 69-68 loss on Thursday night.
Northwest led 16-14 after the first period and outscored Holmes 19-13 over the course of the second quarter, taking a 35-27 lead at the halftime break.
Behind a double-double effort from Jalaceia Smith, the Lady Bulldogs stormed out of the break with a 21-10 third quarter run to regain the lead. The two teams battled it out throughout the fourth period, only for Holmes to edge out the victory and deny a season sweep for the Lady Rangers.
Three Lady Rangers finished in double figures, highlighted by a career-best 18-point, 16-rebound effort from
Kolten Blakeney.
Tierra Trotter also finished with 16 points, followed by a stellar 15-point outing from
I'Yana Ragin.
Trotter,
Ashton Stanley and
Ebony Fulford also came away with five rebounds apiece.
Northwest fell to 4-4 with the loss. The Lady Rangers will host Mississippi Delta on Monday, March 8 at 6 P.M.
