JACKSON - Northwest freshman guard
I'Yana Ragin has been chosen for women's basketball Player of the Week honors by the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference, the league announced on Tuesday morning.
Ragin posted her first career double-double in a 77-74 win at Mississippi Delta last Monday, earning 20 points and 11 assists. She also added four rebounds and a block in the victory against the Lady Trojans.
In just three games as a Lady Ranger, the Baldwyn native is averaging 11.7 points, six assists and 3.3 rebounds per game.
Ragin is the first Northwest women's basketball player to earn conference Player of the Week accolades in over a year. Former Lady Ranger and current Mississippi College guard
Kayla Freeman was the last player to earn the honor, doing so on December 3, 2019.
With COVID-19 and winter weather wreaking havoc on the schedule, Northwest sits at 2-1 on the season and are hoping to resume play later in the week. Schedule announcements will be posted when available on
