Rangers' Season Ends with Quarterfinal Loss at MGCCC

PERKINSTON - Scoring three of its four goals off penalty kicks, No. 15 Mississippi Gulf Coast took a 4-0 victory on Tuesday evening, ending the season for Northwest in the MACCC Quarterfinals.

Northwest forced the Bulldogs to a scoreless draw through the first 45 minutes of the match, before a penalty kick helped get Mississippi Gulf Coast on the board early in the second half. Just minutes later, the Bulldogs added another goal off a penalty kick, quickly gaining a 2-0 advantage.

Despite the turn of events, the Rangers continued to battle, keeping the home team scoreless for most of the contest. Unfortunately, Northwest was unable to get any of its own shots to connect, keeping the zero on the board.

With two minutes remaining in the match, Mississippi Gulf Coast scored its only traditional goal to stretch the lead. With seven seconds left on the clock, the Bulldogs were awarded yet another penalty kick, which further bolstered the Bulldogs' margin to 4-0.

Northwest ends the season at 4-11-1 overall, earning both the best division finish (3rd) and the first postseason appearance since 2016. This also marked the first trip to the playoffs for head coach Mark Hogan.
