CHARLOTTE - It has been a busy couple of weeks for Northwest sophomore defensive back
Jarvis Townsend.
After earning back-to-back MACCC Defensive Player of the Week accolades and being named First Team All-MACCC, another honor rolled in for the Pearl native on Wednesday, as Townsend was chosen as the NJCAA Division I Defense Player of the Week.
The announcement came shortly after Townsend's all-conference selection and just over 24 hours after earning his second conference Player of the Week award. He is the first Northwest player to earn national POTW honors since October 9, 2019, when former receiver
Cameron Wynn garnered the award for his efforts in a win at East Mississippi.
Townsend's five tackles helped Northwest to a 56-21 victory against Hinds in last week's MACCC Championship, but it was his 36-yard pick-six that shut down a spark of momentum for the Eagles in the third quarter. The play marked Townsend's fifth interception of the season, three of which have occurred during the MACCC playoffs.
For the season, Townsend has racked up 57 total tackles, moving his career total to 123 tackles and 14 pass breakups.
