Rangers Blank Holmes in Regular Season Finale

SENATOBIA - Sophomore Luis Cosme scored just 36 seconds into Tuesday's Sophomore Day match and it was all Northwest from there, as the Rangers shutout Holmes by a 3-0 final.

With the victory, Northwest finished 4-4 in the MACCC North Division, the Rangers' best division finish since 2016. The Rangers also sport a 4-10-1 overall record.

Cosme's unassisted goal was one of the only highlights of the first half, until Peyton Coker connected with Sidney Black, Jr. in the 38th minute, pushing the Rangers to a 2-0 halftime advantage.

Both teams combined for 17 first half shots, but Northwest fired off just six second half shots, while Holmes was held to just four over the final 45 minutes. The quiet second half had one last highlight in store however, as sophomore Aaron Cook nabbed his first career goal with less than a minute remaining, scoring off an assist from Dereck Gomez.

Xzavier Paylor collected five saves in a full 90 minutes of action, while Holmes earned six combined stops from Armando Barron and Jordan Stevens.

Holmes was whistled for 15 fouls, 12 coming in the second half, while the Rangers committed just eight for the match. Braylon Kettler was hit with the only infraction of the match, occurring in the 58th minute.

Northwest will now turn its attention to the MACCC Quarterfinals as the No. 3 seed from the North Division. The Rangers will travel to the No. 2 seed from the South Division, which will be officially confirmed on Wednesday.

The quarterfinal match will take place on Tuesday, November 2, with other details to be finalized before the end of the week. Full details, including broadcast coverage, will be announced on nwccrangers.com.
