Lady Rangers Clinch Playoff Spot with 5-0 Shutout of Hinds

SENATOBIA - Sophomores MJ Loeffel and Molly Rose accounted for two goals apiece, helping 13th-ranked Northwest clinch a spot in the upcoming MACCC Playoffs with a 5-0 shutout of Hinds on Tuesday afternoon.

Northwest improved to 13-2 on the year and 4-2 against MACCC North Division competition. The Lady Rangers have now made the postseason in back-to-back years for the first time since 2013-14 in former coach Levi Nunnally's first two seasons.

Loeffel got the scoring started with her penalty kick goal in 15 minutes into the match, helping Northwest to a 1-0 advantage. The Lady Rangers would stretch that lead to 2-0 in the 25th minute, as Kristina Medford checked in on a corner kick and promptly connected with Molly Rose for her first goal of the match.

In the 57th minute, Rose would score again, marking her ninth goal of the season and widening the gap to 3-0. A few minutes later, Loeffel earned her second goal and 19th of the season off a double assist from Melinda Hernandez and Jennifer Enriquez, all but solidifying the victory for Northwest.

Freshman Katie Archer also got in on the scoring late in the match, earning her fourth score of the season on an assist from Rose, pushing the Lady Rangers to the 5-0 final.

Northwest controlled the tempo for most of the match, besting Hinds 25-5 in total shots and 16-1 on-goal. The Lady Rangers were also whistled for 15 fouls against nine for the Lady Eagles, with one caution issued to Hinds' Carlie Giles in the 69th minute.

Northwest will now turn its attention to Itawamba for the regular season road finale. With just two matches remaining, the Lady Rangers still need at least one more victory to lock up home field advantage for the first round of the playoffs.

Kickoff from Fulton is scheduled for 1 P.M., with live coverage available on letsgoicctv.com.
