RAYMOND – Freshman
Lacey Coats was outstanding for Northwest again in the circle, allowing only one earned run with 10 strikeouts in 10.1 innings of work, but it was Hinds who squeaked out a pair of 1-0 and 6-3 victories on Wednesday at Rene T. Warren Field.
Hinds improved to 13-22 overall, 6-13 in the MACJC with the sweep. Northwest fell to *5-28, 4-14 in league play.
Northwest will play six of its final 10 games in Senatobia, beginning with a doubleheader against No. 11 Northeast on Wednesday, April 24 at 2 p.m.
Game 1 – Hinds 1, Northwest 0
Hinds' lone run and hit came on an infield RBI-single from Claudette Galvan in the first inning. Coats threw six shutout frames after that, striking out seven, but Hinds held on for a 1-0 win.
Northwest out-hit the Lady Eagles 4-1 but never really threatened either. The Rangers got just one runner in scoring position all game, with
Cylie Robertson reaching second base on a groundout in the sixth.
Cassidy Rhea was equally impressive for Hinds in the circle in a four-hit shutout with four strikeouts.
Game 2 – Hinds 6, Northwest 3
Amelia Purdy's two-out, RBI-single in the fourth broke up Coats' no-hitter as the Lady Eagles rallied for six runs over the final three innings for a sweep.
A double steal in the first allowed Northwest to score its first run and take their first lead of the day, 1-0, after one.
After Hinds pushed back ahead 2-1 in the fourth,
Katie Brownlee relieved Coats to start the fifth and threw a scoreless frame.
Madison Crosby's clutch two-out, two-run single put the Rangers back on top 3-2 in the top of the sixth before four Hinds runs with two outs in the bottom of the inning led to the Lady Eagles' 6-3 come-from-behind win.
Hinds out-hit Northwest 6-3 in the finale, with five of its six hits in the decisive sixth inning. Both teams finished with just seven hits apiece on the day.
