Ranger Softball Suffers Second Consecutive Sweep

SENATOBIA – Facing a combination of dominant pitching and heavy hitting, Northwest was unable to do much against conference foe Northeast in a sweep to the Tigers on Wednesday afternoon.

Northeast improved to 30-12 overall and 15-7 within the league, while Northwest fell to 5-30 and 4-15 in the MACJC.*

Northwest will hit the road against Pearl River on Saturday, April 27 with first pitch slated for 12 p.m. in Poplarville.

Game 1 – Northeast 4, Northwest 1

Maddy Politte's RBI-double into right center brought in the only run of the day for the Rangers in the fifth inning of a Game 1 loss to Northeast.

Scoreless until the third inning, Northeast plated a pair of runs in the top half of the inning before adding two more in the sixth.

Lacey Coats (5-10) allowed four earned runs on eight hits with three strikeouts in the loss.

Game 2 – Northeast 11, Northwest 0

Down 1-0 heading to the fifth, Northwest surrendered a pair of five-run frames late to ensure a shutout victory for the Tigers and the sweep.

After surrendering a leadoff triple and a 6-3 RBI groundout to start the contest, Katie Brownlee worked through the next three innings with no damage done, striking out three.

Northeast opened the fifth with a hit by pitch and a bunt single that got two Tigers on base, setting up a three-run shot from Breanna Tarpley before adding two more to make it a 6-0 lead.

Northeast plated an additional five in the top of the seventh to further seal the 11-0 victory, finishing with an impressive 15 hits.

Northwest was held to just two hits in the nightcap, both coming from Delta Claire Newman. The Rangers were struck out nine times against Harley Mullins, who improved her personal record to 13-4 in the circle.
