Crosby, Rangers Split MACJC Twinbill with Meridian

SENATOBIA – Freshman Madison Crosby went a combined 4-for-6 with a double and three runs scored to help Northwest to a split with Meridian (RV) on Thursday by 8-4 and 4-2 finals.

Northwest moved to 9-13-1, 3-7 in the MACJC while Meridian moved to 12-10, 5-5 in conference play.

It's the first of five straight home doubleheaders. The Rangers will welcome Coahoma to Senatobia next on Wednesday, April 3, for a 1 p.m. double dip.

Game 1 – Meridian 8, Northwest 4

Tied at two apiece, a four-run fifth for Meridian, highlighted by a three-run home run from Alyssa Branyan, lifted the Lady Eagles to a game one victory.

Northwest rallied to cut a 6-2 deficit in half, 6-4, in the bottom of the fifth on Katie Brownlee's two-run double to left-center only to see Meridian get two back in the sixth thanks to three Ranger errors.

Crosby, Maddy Politte and Kristen Perrigo had two hits apiece as Meridian out-hit Northwest 10-7.

Kaitlyn Parrish went the distance for the Lady Eagles, scattering two earned runs on seven hits with five strikeouts.

Game 2 – Northwest 4, Meridian 2

Northwest got off to a fast start with Delta Claire Newman's two-run double in the first and Sarah Johnson and Katie Brownlee combined for six shutout innings to help the Rangers earn a split.

Johnson's RBI-double and Perrigo's RBI-single extended the Northwest lead to 4-0 after four.

Held scoreless into the sixth, Meridian's lone two runs came off a two-run homer from Aahliya Jones.

Brownlee moved to 4-4 in the circle with four strong relief innings.
