SENATOBIA – D'Zondria Young hit a go-ahead layup for Coahoma with 1:38 left, and Northwest had multiple chances to tie or take the lead in the final 30 seconds, before the Lady Tigers escaped with a 63-62 win at Howard Coliseum Monday night.
Coahoma improved to 6-13 overall and 1-7 in the north and handed Northwest its fifth straight loss as the Lady Rangers fell to 7-11 overall and 2-6 in division play.
Northwest led by six at the half, 35-29, but Coahoma came out with a purpose in the second half and took momentum away with a 7-0 run.
Walneika Holmes and Khiyee Robinson combined for 16 straight points to help the Lady Tigers push in front 47-39 off an 18-4 run.
Northwest battled back to tie the game midway through the fourth quarter and took a 62-61 lead on
Mallory Russell's layup and free throw but were held without a point the final 2:08.
Coahoma would then get the basket it needed by Young after one of the Lady Tigers' seven offensive rebounds to get their first win in Senatobia since Feb. 20, 2012.
Northwest had three chances in the final 16 seconds but turned it over three times.
Lindsay Hall and Russell were the lone Lady Rangers to finish in double figures, with 16 and 14 points, while
Sydney Liddell was a point shy of a double-double with a career-high 11 rebounds.
Holmes led CCC with a game-high 27 points (11-of-11 FT), followed by Robinson with 16.
Northwest will try and snap a five-game skid on Thursday when they travel to Northeast for a 5:30 tip.
