SENATOBIA –
Kayla Bradley scored a game-high 22 points and
Ericka Richardson finished just short of a double-double, as Northwest won big on Sophomore Night against Mississippi Delta, 84-63, to snap a seven-game losing streak.
Northwest improved to 8-13 overall and 3-8 in the division with the win, while MDCC fell to 6-13 and 4-6 with the loss.
MDCC led 6-0 early on back-to-back 3-pointers and 11-5 midway through the opening quarter before Northwest responded with an 11-2 run over the next three minutes to take a 16-13 advantage.
The Lady Trojans would tie the game at 20 apiece before
N'Keiria Larris' two free throws put Northwest ahead for good.
A pair of baskets from
Ariel Tunstall early in the second quarter helped Northwest set the tone, as the Lady Rangers led for the final 30 minutes.
With a 42-34 halftime cushion, Northwest was able to create some separation in the second half, leading by double figures for most of the third quarter thanks to stingy defense. MDCC was held to 7-of-36 shooting down the stretch.
Bradley had 15 of her 22 in the first half and was followed by 12 points from Tunstall and 11 from Richardson. Both
Nakia Walker and Richardson finished one point and rebound shy of double-doubles.
Northwest will close out the season next Monday, Feb. 18 at Holmes.
