MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Despite freshmen
Brendon Galbraith and
Peyton Coker netting their first college goals and solid defensive outings from
Tim Spencer and
Dustin Brown, the Northwest men's soccer program were handed a pair of losses in their weekend twinbill against Georgia Military College and Wake Tech.
In Friday night's matchup at Georgia Military, the Rangers fell 8-1 after GMC's Juan David Herrera went off for five Bulldog goals. His first came less than three minutes into the match and his second came in the 15th minute, before Galbraith responded in the 21st minute off a
Jake Heinze assist, cutting the deficit to 2-1.
After GMC added another goal in the 43rd minute to take a 3-1 halftime lead, the Bulldogs added five goals in the second half to earn the 8-1 victory against the Rangers.
Spencer racked up 12 saves in 60 minutes of action for Northwest, while sophomore
Logan Barham collected four stops over the final 30 minutes.
In Saturday afternoon's neutral match against Wake Tech, the Rangers fell behind in the 21st minute after Mohammed Abdulhadi's penalty kick goal, only to respond less than a minute later as Coker dribbled past the keeper for an empty-net score.
Both teams would remain deadlocked at 1-1 until the 82nd minute, when Justice Lauer added the game-winner for the Eagles to deny the Rangers a victory.
Despite the loss, Brown played all 90 minutes for the Rangers and earned a career-high 12 saves.
Northwest fell to 1-11 on the season with the non-conference losses. The Rangers will look to improve their record when they step back into division competition against Holmes on Tuesday, Oct. 8.
Kickoff for that contest is slated for 3 p.m. in Senatobia. Live stats will be available at nwccrangers.com.
