Northwest and Holmes Play to 1-1 Tie

SENATOBIA – Northwest freshman Brendon Galbraith's second career goal was quickly met with a penalty kick from Holmes, forcing overtime and an eventual 1-1 final on Tuesday afternoon.

Northwest came away with a tie for the first time this season in its second double overtime match of the year. The Rangers' record stands at 1-11-1 overall and 1-4-1 in the MACJC North Division, while Holmes sits at 2-10-2 and 1-4-1 in division play.

Although there were plenty of shots to go around for both teams in the first half, neither offense was able to gain the upper hand as the Rangers and Bulldogs went to the break in a scoreless tie.

Galbraith finally broke the scoreless draw in the 81st minute for his second goal in the last three matches. The celebration quickly turned to disappointment however, when a foul in the box set up a penalty kick from Brady Jacobs in the 84th minute, which would force overtime.

Holmes fired off five shots in the first overtime period before the Rangers flipped the script in the second overtime period, outshooting the Bulldogs 5-3 in the second overtime period. Neither team was able to find the net though, ending the match in a stalemate.

Holmes finished with a slight 25-23 advantage in total shots (14-13 on goal). Tim Spencer earned 13 saves for Northwest while Colby Fair collected 12 for the Bulldogs.

Northwest will now look ahead to its final road trip of the regular season, a division battle at Itawamba on Friday, Oct. 11 at 3 p.m. Live stats for that contest will be available at nwccrangers.com, along with a live broadcast at letsgoicctv.com.
