MARSHALL, Mo. – The Northwest rodeo team traveled more than eight hours this past weekend to compete in the Missouri Valley College Viking Stampede for the second competition of the 2018-19 season.

Freshman Mallory Williamson landed the only spot in the short-go MVC Championship Round Saturday evening in barrel racing, giving the women's team some points to place eighth out of eight teams.

Up against stiff competition, Williamson took home sixth place across the board. She was sixth in the first round, the second round and in the average.

"I am thankful for the opportunity to ride for Northwest," Williamson said. "I will continue to improve my riding by correcting my mistakes from this past competition and I look forward to the next at West Alabama."

In the Thursday evening competition, Klarissa Neff was out in breakaway roping, having a bit of bad luck with a no-time. For the men, Cooper Parks was out in bull riding, bucked off just shy of the eight-second buzzer at 7.9 seconds.

Northwest had three teams competing in team roping, Austin Davis and Klarissa Neff, Brennan and Brandon Tomlinson and Cade Cowan and Clay Tilley.

Davis and the Tomlinson brothers both received a no-time by missing their throws. Cowan and Clay Tilley, from UT Martin, competed in the team roping during the Friday morning slack but received a no-time when Tilley missed heading his steer. The men's team did not place on the weekend.

The Rangers had four competitors in the barrel racing competition on Friday.

Allison Cratin ran a 15.6 during the Friday morning slack, Williamson ran a 14.94, Makayla Jordan ran a 15.35, which landed her in the top 20 for the weekend, and Neff hit the first barrel that landed her a five-second penalty on her time of 15.7.

Next up is the UWA Rodeo in Livingston, Ala., Sept. 27-29.
